Howdy from Wild Deuce!

Welcome to the 17th Edition of the Wild Deuce Newsletter.

2010 Challenge and Sale

Only a few weeks remain until the big event on September 24-26...and we’ll remind you once again – ANYONE can come out and compete. You DON’T have to be selling a horse to be part of the fun. In addition to the Saturday competition for sale horses, Friday sports a competition for anyone to enter – in both adult and youth categories. So come on out and bring your horse! Challenge your friends! It’s a great time. And you can enter online! It’s super easy – just click here for all the details.

If you are considering a new horse you won't want to miss this event. Only select consignors and some of our own Wild Deuce horses will be for sale. All sale horses showcase their talents in our competition, which is a course full of obstacles you could expect to encounter riding and working in the mountains. If you are looking for a great horse that has excellent training and mountain trail experience – this is THE sale to come to.

August Pack Trips!

Our August pack trip season is over for another year – thanks to everyone who joined us; we met so many great people this year and we hope to see you again. Our August trips are based out of our Lone Horse Camp which is several hours riding and more driving to get to any internet service so this month’s newsletter is a bit late (I know...it isn't even August anymore!) - we'll have another issue prior to our Sale Weekend.

For the most part our pack trips went without a hitch (well I guess our wagon has a hitch, but other than that...). We had 2 straight days of rain forcing us to cancel one day of riding – the trails were a bit of a mess and the river was too high to safely cross. Other than that....

...the month was fantastic! We had some great riding days, and introduced our guests to the visual spectacles of Lost Guide Lake and 40 Mile Ridge.

One of our guests from last year - Susan Paul - returned this year to help us out. Susan helped take care of our horses, guests and chores around camp. And Chef Brian - we had nothing but awesome comments regarding the meals. Thanks Susan and Brian - we really appreciate your help and couldn't have done it without you!

Our STARS Horse!

Topline DandyTOPLINE DANDY - AQHA #4958139

3 Year Old Red Roan Mare, 15 hh

We're very excited to introduce to you Topline Dandy donated by Darren & Bobbi Niwa of Muddy Acres. Darren and Bobbi raise quality cutting and cowhorse prospects and are home to the Stallion, "Mudd Slinging Kat."

Topline Dandy - including tack and feed - will be Lot #1 in the auction with proceeds going towards our STARS fundraising goal.
Topline Dandy has reining and cowhorse breeding going back to Topsail Cody and Kim's Pica Pride. Topline Dandy (or "STAR" as we call her) has spent the summer training with Wild Deuce. Check out her web page here.

August Featured Horses

With our horse sale rapidly approaching our August and September Newsletters will feature some of the horses you'll see in the auction. View more information about these horses and more in our 2010 Sale Catalog.

YUKON - AQHA #4933350

4 Year Old Palomino Gelding, 14.2hh

Yukon has been used for both packing & riding throughout this past winter and summer. He is bold and strong for his size. In the string he is the steady one when horses around him are having problems. As a riding horse he will go wherever you point him. He is one of Brenda's favourites!

Ben

BEN - AQHA #3741943

12 Year Old Sorrel Gelding

Ben came to us early this spring. His former owners used him on their farm for moving cattle, pleasure riding and driving. This summer Ben was invaluable as a pack horse because of his size and strength. He didn't bat an eye his first time packing, and worked well in the string; he takes things in stride. Ben has proven to be a strong, reliable and consistent member of our team.

WRANGLER - AQHA (grade)

11 Year Old Grey Gelding

This is a GOOD looking, stout gelding with all the chrome. He came to us broke and needing some miles. We bought him because of his kindness and size. Wrangler has turned out to be awesome. He is tall, stout and has been Terri's main horse for the last month. Terri is currently on a 10 day pack trip and riding Wrangler. You're going to want to meet this nice gelding!

It's a little hard to see in the picture but Terri's sporting a big grin as she leads her string up the Clearwater River. This picture was taken at our Lone Horse Camp on an obviously fantastic day!
