Welcome To The Wild Deuce

Creating a Thinking Horse

Our training has now become a Selected Training Program for 2010. Wild Deuce will choose outside horses for their Exclusive Mountain Horse Training. Register your horse now. Our summer program is booked till 2010. Get put on our waiting list or try for a fall or winter spot!

With our foundation training, your horse can move on to any discipline. Using our gentle hands, we open your horse's eyes to everything they will need to be respectful partner.

At WILD DEUCE there are only two trainers, Brenda and Terri. There are no wranglers. We are the ones that train your horses and the only ones to ride them. You get professional riding and training of your horse, not for one hour a day but for 6-8 hours a day.

At the end of your training we spend the time to teach you about your horse and our training. Wild Deuce’s Horse Training has become so popular because of the honest hours and quality of training put into each horse. Wild Deuce trains from the heart and holds the quality of training by not training for money. They only take on 5 horses each per 60 days! We will be phasing out our training to the general public, as we want to concentrate on our own horses and our summer pack trips. Our clinics are another spot to learn our secrets to success! Soon, our Working Mountain Horse Competition & Select Sale will be the only place to get a horse trained by Wild Deuce!

Winter Arena Training Program

We are now taking a waiting list for Jan/Feb.

In the winter we can offer training that includes from the trail to the arena. For those new to the Wild Deuce Program, the winter program establishes a solid foundation based upon respect and trust and then we move on to train your horse towards specified discipline. Often horses from the summer program come back as the foundation started in the summer is built on with this program.  This is a good spot for your 3 year olds and for fine tuning.

An added bonus of the winter program, your horse has the opportunity to participate in different horse related events throughout training. This includes events such as penning, cattle work and barrels.

We require a deposit to hold your spot because space is so limited for winter training. Please inquire about booking your horse in with us.

About the exclusive 60 day Summer Mountain Training Program

In the beginning: We put the horse in the round pen and start their foundation. We train them to the pack saddle and protective boots, load them, teach them voice commands and ground manners.

During the weeks to follow: We focus on trust and showing your horse what is involved with riding and trials. Also in these weeks we pack them out and teach them even more by going deeper into the back country where they learn to lean on us and us on them. Packing out is a very huge training tool we use, the miles give them growth and maturity. Here is where we sleep and live with them, growing a horse~human bond that is so important. This is a trade secret that is the key to why our horses turn out they way they do! They are packed and taught voice commands. They are rode and packed on alternating days. They learn a lot; including hobbling, covering every type of terrain, patience, doubling, riding with and without a halter, night riding (really gets their trust) and more.

At the end of sixty days in the mountains the owners join us for a weekend to ride their own horse. You get one on one time with the trainer who worked with your horse to show you what has been done and the accomplishments your horse has made. You can ask as many questions as you wish, whether you're a seasoned rider or a beginner, we are here to help. Then later that night, lets sit around the fire and have a chat.

This weekend you are responsible for your own supplies and your personal items; such as food, beverages and bedding.

We offer this incredible 60 day Summer Mountain Training for $1,000.00 per month plus feed, blanket and rope halter.

Wild Deuce knows that each horse is different and each horse will respond to our training in different ways. Our Training methods have been used with all types of horses, horses in different areas of training and problem horses with good results. The mountain setting makes our training is very different. This is not backyard training. Horses smell the wild, work harder and see more training time. This is much more involved than arena training.

We believe in not pushing horses until they are ready. We believe in using trust and respect as our main foundation. Our success rate to date is 98%. We are proud of our successes and what we do by using the mountains as our tool. Given the above, Wild Deuce holds the right to refuse or send home any horse that could endanger himself or the trainer.

Both Terri and Brenda have rode extensively in the mountains always training colts, often packing out for days just the two of them and the unbroke colts they are taking. The mountains have been our best teacher about survival and the horses have been the best teacher for the important equine~human relationship. We have seen a lot of things in those mountains go right and wrong. We pride ourselves on our training and our abilities with each horse. We take training to a new level most people don't experience because they don't ride to remote places where you depend on that very horse for partnership and sometimes survival.

Terri and Brenda are also growing in their training with each new horse and new things they are doing in the horse industry. They have tried team roping, pasture roping, penning, sorting, reining, barrel racing and will continue to try new things to advance their skills for our customers.

"Our horse training is based on Trust and Respect for the horse and human."
