Building the Foundation

Wild Deuce has been asked many times by the general public to teach clinics. We have been asked, “can I do that with MY horse?” With our exclusive Wild Deuce clinics, our response is: Absolutely Yes!

Our clinics are open to all ages and levels of riding experience from beginners to trainers.

Our topics cover beginner round penning to colt starting to packing...and just about everything in between!

Training problems and issues like loading, respect, catching, spookiness, etc. are just a sample of what we can help you overcome.

Or you might need some direction on the next step to take with your horse training - we can help with that too!

Let Wild Deuce show you how - with the proper foundation - you can excel in your riding, whether it be in the arena, on the side of mountain or jumping over a four foot spread!

The fundamental principle in our training is this: It is NOT about the 'scary' or new things you encounter in your riding...it IS about how your horse responds.

To build on this principle, you and your horse will learn how to develop a partnership. Together we will create a "thinking horse". This is a horse whose first instinct is not to react blindly to a fearful situation, but with you as a partner - to calmly assess and deal with it instead.

Our training methods are based on the principles of natural horsemanship, and training starts in the round pen.

Either Terri or Brenda will initially work with your horse. You will see how we start communicating with your horse, and developing the key elements of trust and respect. Working with your horse one-on-one also gives us insight into your horse, any previous training they might have and their status in the herd.

Next, you step into the round pen and start a conversation with your horse under our guidance. We round pen one horse at a time so everybody can watch and learn. Each person and every horse will have something different to show everyone in the clinic.

Our round pen work builds the foundation which is the key to successful riding outside the arena environment. Don't forget to bring your note book; you will be exposed to a lot of valuable information each day.

Depending on which clinic you choose, after the round pen sessions what you have learned will be practiced on the trail.

We also introduce 'games' on the trail to further solidify your parnership.

Our clinics are limited to ten people and their horses. This way we can guarantee you an extensive amount of one-on-one time.

You will come away from our clinic with more confidence, a new set of skills you can put into practice at home, and last but not least: a solid foundation for a partnership with your horse based on trust and respect.

At Wild Deuce, we value the opportunity to showcase our training. Our venue to do this is our Annual Working Mountain Horse Competition and Sale. For more information and some great pictures that demonstrate we 'practice what we preach' please check out our Competition and Sale page.
